Things I’ve learnt since becoming a mum (part 1)
Thought I’d start writing a list of things I’ve discovered since becoming a mum so here goes….
#1 I am capable of functioning an 2 hours sleep in any 24 hour period. Although since Zara turned about 6 weeks old luckily this has improved considerably. Oh how I laughed when people used to say “make the most of sleeping whilst you can” – I never realised exactly how true those words were!
#2 Baby poo comes in an astonishing variety of colours and textures. I have a real issue with toilet things and I really don’t do toilet humour at all and so I really wasn’t looking forward to this aspect of being a parent, even looking at pictures of baby poo was enough to make me heave. Six months on I now consider myself an expert on all things poo. We have tar poo, pesto poo, mustard poo, runny poo, explosive poo, triangular poo, banana poo and the more she eats the more interesting it gets. No longer do I panic when I feel that warm wet feeling seeping into my jeans as I slowly realise we have had another poo disaster. I don’t bat an eyelid at having to catch poo in my hands as it decides to appear mid nappy change. In fact I’m almost looking forward to potty training!
#3 No matter how tired I am, that sleepy smile I get at 5am in the morning whilst giving Zara a feed is enough to melt my heart completely.
#4 I still don’t particularly like other peoples children, I never really liked them anyway but always thought that was just because I’m not a mum myself but after having Zara I still feel the same. I just don’t really find other peoples children that interesting or cute (apart from a few exceptions).
#5 Although it’s nice occasionally to chat to other mums and have a natter about babies etc, I do find it grates on me after a while and I’d love to talk about something else other than what their little darlings have achieved recently. For some reason people seem to thing that because we have children the same age we must get on with each other when in reality we have absolutely nothing in common except we happened to give birth around the same time.
And so ends part 1 of things I’ve learnt since becoming a mum

Zara is...

I’ll let Maisie & Liam know that Auntie Dawn doesn’t like them when they get up in the morning!!! LOL!!! If you had met the 3 I had to work with today you would have run away screaming! I almost did!!!!
