I am so envious of people that run! It's something I really admire and would love to do but I have to be so careful with exercise as my body tends to have rather extreme reactions to things. There's a big part of me tempted to give it a go - and reading your tips in the comment above there has helped!

I hope you get to run again soon. It's lovely hearing the passion with which you describe it :)

my 3 tips for running:
1) no matter how crap you feel the hardest thing is putting on your trainers and getting going :)
2) run at a pace which is comfortable for you, doesn't matter how slow it is, because at the end of the day I was burning more calories running 10k in over an hour than my husband was doing it far quicker. At a comfortable pace you will find you can just keep going and going :)
3) the first 20 minutes of any run are the worst, once you get past 20 minutes you just find yourself in a nice gentle routine so keep telling yourself that and before you know it you'll be running for much longer than you ever thought possible :)

oh and another thing - get a good pair of running shoes! Not just off the shelf ones, proper ones where the shop analyses your gait on a treadmill and recommends shoes to suit your style of running. I kept collapsing at the ankle when running but with some decent shoes my gait improved and so less injuries :)

So annoying just left great long comment and had to log in again! Was just saying how great that you found out how much you loved running and sorry about the GNR but they'll be other times for that. I have put in to run a 10k in October but bricking it frankly as I haven't run much since before my girls were born, they are 1 and nearly 3 now. Pretty unfit too so not sure I'll make it, but I am being sponsored so the thought of not letting people down is my motivation! would love any tips or advice you had on what you found worked for your training. I only get to go once the girls are in bed, so I'm knackered but have to get myself out there.

I'm so jealous that you can run. It's not about speed. What a shame about the GNR but I am sure you can get another stab at it if you enjoy running
