The Gallery – My Weekend

14

This post is this weeks entry for The Gallery over at Sticky Fingers

The prompt this week is My Weekend. I’m sure you all know by now what I did this weekend and are expecting yet another Cybermummy photo but you know what? I’ m going to surprise you because this was the nicest moment by far of my weekend. Coming home and having double hugs from my babies :)

4 Months Old! How time flies

4

Today my little man is 4 months old, I can’t believe how fast time is flying. I’ve been looking back through Zara old photos and found one of her at the same age as a comparison

Zara aged 4 months

2 days after this photo was taken Zara rolled over for the first time, I think we’ve a while to go before Oscar is doing that but as each week goes by I see them becoming more and more similar.

What do you think? Are they starting to look alike? :)

How it all began…

Today both our children were in nursery so my husband and I took the opportunity to have a day out together and we went back to the place we first met and lived. York will always be a very special place to us, it’s where we first met, where we first lived together and where we got married and going back there always brings the memories flooding back.

Our first date together started here…

I was an hour late and so we missed our original meeting place of Parliament Square and outside the Zara store just happened to be where I was when we found each other. When deciding on the name for our first baby we jokingly said we should do a “Posh” and name it after where we met if it was a girl. Thinking it over we realised we actually loved the name and after looking up the meaning which is “the brightness of Dawn” it just had to be :) and so Zara was named.

Back to our first date, after meeting outside Zara we then decided to go for a drink at a bar that we both knew….

Yes you’ve guessed it, following a theme when trying to decide on a boys name we came up with Oscar as this is where we had our first drink together, again we happen to love the name and so it was decided. Luckily we had a boy second time round as we didn’t have a name with such a relevant meaning if it were a girl.

And now we’ve had 2 children we are stopping as if we carried on with our theme our third child would be called Pitcher and Piano and I think that’s just taking it a bit too far ;)

The Gallery – I’m grateful for…

10

This post is this weeks entry for The Gallery over at Sticky Fingers

This week is a special week over at The Gallery, Christine Mosler from Thinly Spread is off on an amazing journey with Save The Children to Mozambique. She has been invited along as part of their campaign to make a lot of noise ahead of the Global Vaccination Summit on June 13. The aim is to encourage the world’s leaders to plug the vaccination funding gap. They want a fair deal for children all over the world!

So the theme for this weeks gallery is I’m grateful for… and this week I found the theme far too easy. You see all this talk about vaccinations got me thinking about modern medicine and how lucky we are in the UK today. Regular readers will know of Oscar’s arrival into the world, he arrived 6 weeks early by emergency c-section. Oscar had to be resuscitated at birth as he was born blue and floppy ( I believe it took them 5 minutes to get him breathing by himself, I of course was unaware as I was under general anaesthetic), I lost over 3 litres of blood and received 6 units of blood and 3 units of plasma during theatre but we are both here now 3 months later, fit and healthy which is all thanks to the care we received and modern medicine, sometimes we take how lucky we are for granted but I can never be more grateful for anything in my life for the wonderful NHS and the care we received that day. And so here are my photos for this weeks gallery….

Three months ago today

Has it really been 3 months since Oscar arrived in the world, back then he was a tiny, scrawny little thing…

Just look at the size of him back then… (excuse the dodgy photo of me but my excuse is I’d just had an emergency c-section so a girl is entitled to look a bit rough around the edges)

And 3 months on just look at my little man now…

He certainly isn’t quite so scrawny anymore :)

It seems like it’s been a long and difficult road to get to where we are today, it’s slowly getting easier and at some point in the future I’m hoping to still be asleep at this time in the morning and not writing blog posts whilst waiting for him to go to sleep :)

Something happier to share with you

I’m very aware that Oscar hasn’t really featured much on here yet and that’s because the last 11 weeks have been pretty boring to be honest. With him being born 6 weeks early it’s been a long time waiting for a little bit of personality to show through and I’m only now starting to see something appearing. And just to prove that the male obsession with toilet humour starts at a very early age, I give you Oscar….

Two very different babies (Can you tell which is which?)

4

Both of these photos were taken by my sister Sonia who is a professional photographer, you can check out more of her work on her website Sonia Thorpe Photography. I’m very lucky to have a photographer to take beautiful photos of my babies, below are two photos that she took of Oscar and Zara. One when Zara was 10 days old and one when Oscar was 5 weeks old. Can you tell which baby is which? (It’s far too easy isn’t it ? :) )

Baby development, by now your baby should be juggling whilst riding a unicycle

5

We all know those emails right? You know the ones that tell you by week 9 your baby may even be able to roll over and should be able to do…etc etc I really need to unsubscribe to them or stop reading them as it’s been getting me down recently.

It was great with Zara, she was always miles ahead of what the emails and books said and I used to get a rush of satisfaction knowing my baby was doing everything that was expected. She was always strong from the start and could hold her head well, she smiled early followed quickly by laughing. Ok so she was a bit slow on the crawling and walking front but not too late really.

Zara taken 14/1/10 at just under 8 weeks old!

Oscar however is a whole different matter! He was 9 weeks old on Monday and is still very much a newborn. He can’t control his head yet, isn’t really very responsive and I’m sure most of his “smiles” are due to wind. He spends most of his time just feeding and sleeping and doesn’t show any interest in the world around him yet.

Oscar aged 9 weeks, still very much a newborn!

By 9 weeks Zara was sleeping through the night and Oscar is still feeding like a newborn and showing no signs of increasing the gap between feeds and I’d been finding myself wanting to push him somehow as 9 weeks of having a “newborn” baby is exhausting work and the lack of progress is very frustrating at times.

It’s only when I got thinking that I really came to realise that there was actually a 7 week age gap between when Zara was born at 41 weeks and Oscar born at 34 weeks! So really in comparison terms I should only be expecting Oscar to do what Zara was doing at 2 weeks old (ie being a newborn!). It makes 100% sense really, Oscar spent the first 7 weeks of his life doing on the outside what Zara did on the inside – growing! He has over doubled in size from his lowest weight so it’s not like he hasn’t been developing at all, just not necessarily in the way it tells you on the emails or in the books!

So today I am going to unsubscribe from all those emails and put away the baby books and just let Oscar develop in his own time. So what if he can’t juggle with flaming clubs whilst riding a unicycle yet 

The Gallery: Tomorrow

15

This post is this weeks entry for The Gallery over at Sticky Fingers

The prompt this week is Tomorrow.

My Tomorrows

Tomorrow I may get to sleep all night,
Tomorrow may drive me to tears,
Tomorrow I may be exhausted,
But
Tomorrow I will be amazed by something new you do,
Tomorrow I will count my blessings when I look at you,
Because Zara and Oscar, you are all my tomorrows and my tomorrows would be nothing without you.
