This post is this weeks entry for The Gallery over at Sticky Fingers

The prompt this week is My Weekend. I’m sure you all know by now what I did this weekend and are expecting yet another Cybermummy photo but you know what? I’ m going to surprise you because this was the nicest moment by far of my weekend. Coming home and having double hugs from my babies :)

4 Months Old! How time flies

4

Today my little man is 4 months old, I can’t believe how fast time is flying. I’ve been looking back through Zara old photos and found one of her at the same age as a comparison

Zara aged 4 months

2 days after this photo was taken Zara rolled over for the first time, I think we’ve a while to go before Oscar is doing that but as each week goes by I see them becoming more and more similar.

What do you think? Are they starting to look alike? :)

How it all began…

6

Today both our children were in nursery so my husband and I took the opportunity to have a day out together and we went back to the place we first met and lived. York will always be a very special place to us, it’s where we first met, where we first lived together and where we got married and going back there always brings the memories flooding back.

Our first date together started here…

I was an hour late and so we missed our original meeting place of Parliament Square and outside the Zara store just happened to be where I was when we found each other. When deciding on the name for our first baby we jokingly said we should do a “Posh” and name it after where we met if it was a girl. Thinking it over we realised we actually loved the name and after looking up the meaning which is “the brightness of Dawn” it just had to be :) and so Zara was named.

Back to our first date, after meeting outside Zara we then decided to go for a drink at a bar that we both knew….

Yes you’ve guessed it, following a theme when trying to decide on a boys name we came up with Oscar as this is where we had our first drink together, again we happen to love the name and so it was decided. Luckily we had a boy second time round as we didn’t have a name with such a relevant meaning if it were a girl.

And now we’ve had 2 children we are stopping as if we carried on with our theme our third child would be called Pitcher and Piano and I think that’s just taking it a bit too far ;)

Two very different babies (Can you tell which is which?)

4

Both of these photos were taken by my sister Sonia who is a professional photographer, you can check out more of her work on her website Sonia Thorpe Photography. I’m very lucky to have a photographer to take beautiful photos of my babies, below are two photos that she took of Oscar and Zara. One when Zara was 10 days old and one when Oscar was 5 weeks old. Can you tell which baby is which? (It’s far too easy isn’t it ? :) )

The Gallery – Green

This post is this weeks entry for The Gallery over at Sticky Fingers

The prompt this week is Green.

I’ve decided to post this photo this week as it’s one of my favourite ever ones of Zara. She was sat outside in the garden playing round and round the garden on her hands and I just love how she is sat there in a sea of green :)

The Gallery: Tomorrow

15

This post is this weeks entry for The Gallery over at Sticky Fingers

The prompt this week is Tomorrow.

My Tomorrows

Tomorrow I may get to sleep all night,
Tomorrow may drive me to tears,
Tomorrow I may be exhausted,
But
Tomorrow I will be amazed by something new you do,
Tomorrow I will count my blessings when I look at you,
Because Zara and Oscar, you are all my tomorrows and my tomorrows would be nothing without you.

I’ll never be a natural mum…but…

15

A conversation on twitter last night got me thinking. As most of you are aware I’m now a mum of 2!! Oscar aged 7 weeks and Zara aged 16 months and to say I’ve been finding it difficult is an understatement.

I’ve always admired those natural mothers, you know the ones you see that can handle 5 children simultaneously without messing up their hair, can change a nappy one handed whilst drinking coffee and organising charity events. The mums who never seem to ask for help, they instinctively know exactly what to do with their children and have probably never had to look on the internet or read a book to find out what they need to do. It seems these mums are everywhere and I can’t help but feel inadequate when I compare myself to them. It’s probably one of the reasons I stopped going to baby and toddler groups as everyone else seemed to be finding motherhood a piece of cake and there was me with a screaming Zara who did nothing but scream unless I took her home for a nap.

It’s not all doom and gloom though, you see I am a mum and motherhood may not have come naturally to me, but like everything in my life I try my hardest and I work bloody hard to make sure I do something well. I’ve spent the last 16 months studying books, the internet, asking questions and quite often tearing my hair out but you know what? I’ve survived and I think I’ve done a pretty good job.

It’s only when I look at Zara now and I realise I’ve actually done a bloody good job of raising her. She is intelligent, curious, independent, social, eats brilliantly, sleeps well and is a joy to be with. Nursery are always telling us how great she is to look after and how she is such a clever little girl for her age and this makes me swell with pride. I look at her and can’t help smiling when I think “I did that!”

The result of all my hard work!

And now the fun really begins because just as I’m getting used to being a mum, along comes baby number two :) Although looking after Oscar seems to be much easier this time, looking after 2 is probably the biggest challenge I’ve ever faced. I really don’t know how I’ll manage it, the thought of being left alone with both of them (we are lucky to be in a position where Zara continues to go to nursery during the week for now) terrifies me. I mean how on earth do you manage to deal with a newborn screaming for a feed and a toddler screaming for cuddles because her teeth hurt when you can only have one pair of hands. It’s a logistical nightmare and all careful planning seems to have gone out of the window. They just don’t write books about how to cope in this situation so I’m making it up as I go along :) I know the next few months are going to be hard and unlike some mum’s it won’t come naturally to me but you know what, I’ll work bloody hard at it and do my best and maybe that makes it all more rewarding :)

Not enough hands!
