Washday Blues and My Strange Obsession
5I like to think I’m a pretty normal person 99% of the time but when it comes to doing the laundry I have a secret side to my personality which I need to confess about. Maybe its the Libra in me, or the accountant but I like things to match and balance nicely and this causes me a few problems.
Take this photo of my washing line for instance, looks like a pretty normal washing line yes?
WRONG! Oh so wrong. Let me list a few of the issues I have with this particular washing line:
- For a start the washing line is wonky and not at a perfect 90 degree angle to the floor (I blame my husband for this)
- The clothes haven’t been hung out equally, you will notice that one side of the line has no clothes on it at all.
- The pegs – oh my goodness the pegs!! When I hang out my washing I always try to co-ordinate the peg colour with the colour of the clothes and you can NEVER, I repeat NEVER have odd pegs hanging up an item of clothing – they must MATCH
- There are UNUSED pegs on the washing line, now I hate this, you should only use the required number of pegs and all others should remain in the peg basket at ALL times. I blame my husband for this disaster as he brought the last load in from outside.

- The most awful crime with this washing line is carefully hidden behind other clothes as I just couldn’t stand the embarrassment. It is the ultimate washing day crime of all and one that can almost reduce me to tears! ODD socks!!
If anyone knows the whereabouts of this socks partner then PLEASE let me know as I’ve searched every-bloody-where and it has just vanished. I’m tempted to just take it down and throw it in the bin but it would be just my luck the other sock would turn up in the next load of washing
Its odd that I care so much about balancing my washing line and it all looking tidy but I don’t even own an iron! I don’t do ironing at all, I don’t mind if Zara leaves the house with creases in her clothes but god forbid they are hung on my washing line with mismatched pegs! (I told you I was strange!)
And the oddness continues…It isn’t just me who has slightly odd laundry obsessions in my house, I can also reveal my husband has a shirt hanging obsession. Although we don’t have an iron in the house we do have a steamer for getting rid of creases in some clothes (usually just my husbands work shirts) and the best way of doing this is to dry shirt, place on hanger, steam it and then place in wardrobe ready for use. Now my husband has to have all the shirts facing the same direction and buttoned up so that his wardrobe looks nice and tidy. You will see in the photo below a prime example of how he wouldn’t want them to be hung on the hanger. They are a) not buttoned up and b) facing the wrong way!

I confess I have done this deliberately in REVENGE for the absolute state that he has left my washing line in!

Zara is...
